Turn Your State Blue This March
Posted on November 7, 2013
We just kicked off the new Blue Star State campaign! In partnership with Fight Colorectal Cancer, we’re encouraging grassroots advocates to get ALL 50 states to issue proclamations declaring March 2014 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. President Clinton issued the first Presidential proclamation in 2000 and now each year, advocates can request that national, state and city officials issue similar statements.
If all 50 states become Blue Star States, policy makers across the nation will see that colon cancer is a national priority. Your governor should be excited to support a cause that requires nothing more than his or her signature.
The proclamation will garner attention of national representatives, too. What better way to raise awareness and encourage prevention?
How Can You Help?
So far, we know of 19 advocates from different states who’ve committed to securing a state proclamation! Here’s a glimpse into our progress:
- New York
- New Jersey
- North Carolina
- West Virginia
Have you sent a request to your governor? Make sure to let us know by emailing Advocacy@FightCRC.org!
Don’t See Your State? We Need You!
Our goal is to see all 50 states issue proclamations for March 2014. We request proclamations each year because the proclamations are not signed into law. An annual state proclamation gets colon cancer on the books and on policy makers’ radars each year.
If you don’t see your state listed, please help us! Go to our Blue Star States online portal and download everything you need:
Simply download the forms, enter your information and send along to your governor – it’s that simple! Get started today so we have all 50 states by March!
Did You Secure Your State Proclamation?
If your state became a Blue Star State, spread the great news! Make sure to let us know!
Use our sample press release to notify local media outlets and doctors’ offices of your success and use our social media tools and write to your Congressmen to let them know that colon cancer is a national priority!
