More Evidence for Oxaliplatin as Colon Cancer Chemotherapy
A new study has examined the effectiveness of oxaliplatin in a “real world” setting as a treatment for colon cancer. During previous tests, typically conducted in clinical trials, participants were younger, healthier and less diverse. This clinical trial patient demographic only comprises about 2% of eligible patients, and so researchers sought to study how effective oxaliplatin was for patients outside of the clinical trial setting. Researchers sifted through multiple cancer registries and found that oxaliplatin was just as effective in prolonging survival in patients treated outside of the “ideal” clinical trial environment as it was the real world. This real world demographic included the elderly, minorities and people with multiple health issues, thereby confirming that oxaliplatin improves survival in a wide variety of patients.
