New York School District Goes Blue
On March 4, 2011 the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District (PMCSD), located just east of Rochester, NY, participated in National Dress in Blue Day. The faculty and staff at this semi-rural school district were asked to donate $5 to wear blue – which included blue jeans! The PMCSD not only raised $600 for the Colon Cancer Alliance but also increased awareness of colon cancer and the importance of early detection throughout their community.
The event was organized by math specialist Kristen Wright, who lost her 43 year old sister to colon cancer last June. She left behind two young daughters and a devastated family. She was a vibrant, loving, and carefree woman. In her memory, Kristen is dedicated to spreading awareness and supporting the research for a cure.
Kristen has been a top fundraiser at the Philadelphia Undy 5000 and is headed to the Jersey Shore race next, all in memory of her sister.
