Rose Nappa Colon Cancer Awareness 5K Run/Walk
When Aubrey began to design her senior project, she had a clear focus in mind: to raise money and awareness about colon cancer. The culmination of her hard work resulted in the Rose Nappa Colon Cancer Awareness 5K Run/Walk which took place on April 28, 2012 in Warwick, RI.
The event, named for Aubrey’s grandmother who passed away from colon cancer, benefitted the Colon Cancer Alliance: Voices of Rhode Island Chapter. Working closely with Barbara Joyce, the CCA’s Rhode Island Chapter Chairperson, Aubrey modeled her event after the Boldr Dash, a military style obstacle course and race. She also established a registration account via Active.com to which people could donate funds. Aubrey’s event did more than raise awareness; it also raised critical funds—more than $3,000!
At the end of four months of intense organization and preparation, Aubrey is thrilled with the love and support she received! She is excited to continue on to more philanthropic work including helping the CCA’s Voices of Rhode Island Chapter with their 4th Annual Colon Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run on August 5, 2012.
The CCA would like to thank all of Aubrey’s sponsors including the Warwick Fire Department, East Greenwich Police Department, Win Water Works, Biki Bar, Gannon Sign, Stop & Shop, Cumberland Farms and others. And our warmest congratulations and thanks to Aubrey for raising funds and awareness in memory of her grandmother, Rose Nappa.
