Running for Kaye: The Heart of Biddeford 5K Race
Kaye Richardson served as a shining example of healthy living. As the founder and owner of Forever Fit in Biddeford, Maine, she believed in the power of alternative medicine, nutrition, exercise and a positive attitude. When Kaye was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in November 2010, Kaye was determined to fight the disease using the health habits she found so important.
Before and during her treatment, Kaye enjoyed working at the Heart of Biddeford Organization, which concentrates on revitalizing Biddeford’s downtown. As a joint health and rejuvenation campaign, Kaye introduced and planned the inaugural Heart of Biddeford 5K Road Race. Held in September 2011, the race was a great success.
When Kaye passed away in November 2011 after a year-long battle, her daughter Chiara and friend/co-worker Delilah decided to honor Kaye’s memory through the event about which she had been so passionate. On August 10, 2012, nearly 100 runners competed in the Second Annual Heart of Biddeford 5K Road Race in honor of Kaye Richardson. The event, coupled with the race’s Blue Star Tribute page, raised more than $4,100 to support the Colon Cancer Alliance’s mission of providing hope and support to patients and their families while saving lives through screening, access, awareness, advocacy and research.
The Colon Cancer Alliance would like to thank Chiara and Delilah for organizing such a successful event, which so beautifully honored the memory of their mother and friend.
