Team Britton
Diagnosed with colon cancer at age 22, Britton Butler faced a difficult journey. Luckily, he had a wonderful support system of family and friends, as well as comprehensive medical insurance to help him through treatment. But, as Britton quickly realized, many individuals were not as lucky. In order to help those in need, Britton and his family came up with the idea to hold a golf tournament to benefit those seeking treatment.
Sadly, after a courageous six year fight, Britton passed away in February of 2012. In the wake of Britton’s passing, his family forged ahead with Britton’s wishes and created the First Annual Team Britton Golf Tournament. On May 24, 2012, Britton’s family, friends, and guests gathered in Knoxville, Tennessee to enjoy a day playing Britton’s favorite sport.
Britton’s aunt, Kerry, said, “Even though Britton was not there to swing a golf club at the tournament, his presence was felt on the course!”
Team Britton and the Colon Cancer Alliance would like to thank Rusty Wallace Honda/Kia, Fox Chevrolet, and Kroger for their sponsorship of the First Annual Team Britton Golf Tournament.
Congratulations to Team Britton on the success of their first event raising $15,000 for the Colon Cancer Alliance’s Blue Note Fund. Team Britton’s contribution will provide one-time grants of $300 to individuals undergoing treatment for colon cancer in need. The Colon Cancer Alliance appreciates the generosity of Britton’s family and friends to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by this disease.
If you would like to be a part of the 2nd Annual Team Britton Golf Tournament next May, please contact Sherri Cook at (850) 691-8210 or Kerry Kennedy at (865) 228-2261. You can sponsor a team, be a hole or tee sponsor, or just come out and volunteer! A dinner and a silent auction are being planned the night before the golf tournament with donations currently being accepted for auction items.
Great job, Team Britton! We can’t wait to see next year’s event!
