A diagnosis of cancer can cause emotional and physical stress. It can also cause a severe financial strain on the survivor and the family. Below is a list of organizations and programs that can be helpful for individuals and families having financial difficulties. Many communities also have local resources such as churches and civic organizations, such as the United Way, that should be investigated.
-
Out of Pocket Expenses
The extra expenses of a cancer diagnosis may confront a family for the first time with financial difficulties; remember your problems in such a situation are temporary and not unique.
- Empowering the Patient
Seeking to empower patients to take control of their health care, PAF case managers work with patients to discover local, state, and federal programs that provide assistance for their individual needs.
- Support and Assistance Guide for Cancer Patients
This resource lists charitable organizations that assist with basic household expenses, medical costs, and housing and transportation needs for patients receiving treatment away from home. Some of the resources are dedicated specifically to helping uninsured patients afford medical care and underinsured patients afford medical supplies and drug expenses not covered by insurance.
