Not Your Typical 5K

Welcome Todd Setter, New Undy 5000 Event Director

Watch a video of Todd

Todd Setter has actively promoted colon cancer awareness since his father, Ron, passed away from the disease in 1998. Drawing from his personal experiences, Todd fully understands the importance of timely screenings and early detection. Before coming on board with the CCA as the Undy 5000 Event Director, he volunteered as the local Race Director for the inaugural Undy events in San Diego and Los Angeles. He has also volunteered at the Denver, Phoenix and Dallas races.

Todd earned a B.A. in Business Administration from St. John’s University and has over 20 years of experience in marketing and business development. In his spare time, Todd enjoys cooking, running marathons, road biking and spending time with family and friends.

In 2008, The Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) launched a series of 5000 meter (5K) runs called Undy 5000s. These events are designed to draw media attention, give survivors and caregivers a voice, and get people talking about colorectal cancer.

This disease is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States and is 80% preventable with proper and timely screening. The Undy 5000 encourages discussion by providing custom event boxer-style shorts instead of traditional t-shirts for all participants to wear during the event. Why boxers? Because people don't like to talk about colorectal cancer. And talking about it will save their lives. We need people to talk about colorectal cancer at their doctor's office, around the dinner table, at the grocery store … everywhere.

The response to these events has been overwhelmingly positive. By creating a sense of community and camaraderie among those affected by colorectal cancer and promoting open dialogue, the Undy 5000 5K Runs are making a difference in the fight against colorectal cancer.
