Colon Cancer Foundations Join Forces For Cinci 5k Event
The Colon Cancer Alliance and Meredith’s Miracles Colon Cancer Foundation unite for this year’s Cincinnati Undy 5000
(October 3, 2013) Washington, DC – For the first time in Cincinnati Undy 5000 history, the Colon Cancer Alliance and Meredith’s Miracles Colon Cancer Foundation have joined forces to bring you the 4th annual Cincinnati Undy 50005K and 1 mile walk/run.
Through this inaugural partnership, the Colon Cancer Alliance and Meredith’s Miracles have come together to spark much-needed conversations. On October 12 at 9 a.m., people of all ages will take to the streets near the Great American Ball Park in their family-friendly, underwear-themed outfits to run or walk, raising awareness and funds to fight colon cancer.
The Undy 5000 isn’t your typical 5K. Instead of a race day t-shirt, participants receive a pair of Undy 5000 boxer shorts to bring attention to the area of the body affected by colon cancer. If that’s not unique enough, attendees have the rare opportunity to walk through the Colon Cancer Alliance’s larger-than-life inflatable colon exhibit, which helps create a dramatic visual by showing visitors the various stages of this disease.
A fun twist to a serious topic, the Undy 5000 allows hundreds of people who have been affected by colon cancer to come together as a community. The event honors survivors in attendance and also takes a moment to remember those who have lost their battles. Whether you are an avid runner, a survivor or are supporting someone affected by this disease, the Undy 5000 provides a morning of inspiration and encouragement while making colon cancer a topic that is OK to talk about.
“This year’s collaboration with Meredith’s Miracles Colon Cancer Foundation is so exciting,” said Todd Setter, National Director of the Undy 5000 series. “The Undy 5000 is all about drawing attention, increasing screening rates and, ultimately, saving lives. Partnering with Meredith’s Miracles will allow us to have an even bigger impact on the Cincinnati community and beyond. What’s better than that?”
Colon cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, yet it is still the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. People may not want to talk about “that” part of the body, but talking about it just might save a life.
Boehringer Ingelheim, the maker of Dulcolax®*, is the proud presenting sponsor of the 2013 Undy 5000 event series. As the #1 doctor-recommended stimulant for constipation relief, Dulcolax ® reminds everyone over the age of 50 or with a family history of colon cancer, that a colonoscopy can save lives.
