Atlanta Undy 5000 Shatters Previous Fundraising and Participation Records
Atlanta (November 14, 2011) – More than 500 people in their underwear ran around Marietta Square last weekend, all in the name of colon cancer. The 2nd Annual Atlanta Undy 5000 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run was held in honor of and in memory of those who have been directly affected by colon cancer.
The event raised more than $100,000 – nearly twice what the event raised in 2010. The money will help fund the Colon Cancer Alliance’s (CCA) patient support and educational programs.
“We were thrilled to have 28 amazing colon cancer survivors at the event” said Todd Setter, National Undy 5000 Event Director. “That made for one of our best survivor ceremonies, as we were able to honor and recognize so many inspirational people.”
Dr. Marion Schertzer of Georgia Colon and Rectal Associates gave a brief talk about the importance of colorectal cancer screening and early detection, which is the key message of the Undy 5000 series.
The Undy 5000 series, created by the CCA in 2008, is held in cities across the nation, and is designed to promote awareness and educate the public about colon cancer.
Boehringer Ingelheim, the maker of Dulcolax®,* is the proud presenting sponsor of the 2011 Undy 5000 races. As the #1 doctor-recommended stimulant for constipation relief, Dulcolax®* reminds everyone over the age of 50 or with a family history of colon cancer that a colonoscopy can save lives.
More information about the Undy 5000 is available online at www.undy5000.org.
