Columbus Undy 5000 Brings Hundreds Together in the Fight Against Colon Cancer
On Sunday, October 11, 2010 the Undy 5000 5K run teamed up with the Peggy Bock Memorial Race for Hope to bring greater awareness to colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Nearly 300 adults and children came out to Upper Arlington High School for the 11:00 AM event that raised almost $40,000. A portion of these funds will go to local entities including The Wellness Community, The Columbus Cancer Clinic and James Care For Life.
The Brew 105.7 came out to emcee this event. There were also other activities including a silent auction and the Kiser colon - a giant inflatable walk through colon. This popular attraction depicts the various stages of colon cancer, polyps and the difference between what a healthy colon and diseased tissue look like. It really shows viewers the importance of keeping their colons healthy and getting screened.
Regional sponsors of this event included LabCorp, The Brew 105.7, Panera Bread, and Whole Foods Market. National sponsors of this event included Amgen Oncology, ASCRS (American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Bristol Myers Squibb, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Genentech, MITA (Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance) and Salix Pharmaceuticals.
