2011 San Diego Undy 5000

2011 San Diego Undy 5000 Breaks Multiple Records!
On Saturday, March 19, over 600 people came out to Mission Bay Park for the second annual San Diego Undy 5000 hosted by the Colon Cancer Alliance. Despite threats of rain, participants ran in their underwear to help raise awareness about colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. With 101 team members, the Blue Ribbon Booties broke the record for the largest team to have ever been formed in Undy history.
This year’s event showed a 21% increase in participation compared to last year, and raised thousands of dollars more. More than $81,000 was raised to help fund national and local colon cancer patient support and innovative public awareness programs. A generous portion of the proceeds will also go to support partner California Colorectal Cancer Coalition’s local screening program.
Regional sponsors of the 2011 San Diego Undy 5000 included UC San Diego Health System, The Endoscopy Center of Encinitas, the California Colon Cancer Control Program, and the California Dialogue on Cancer. National sponsors included Dulcolax, ASCRS (American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons), Genentech BioOncology, Salix Pharmaceuticals, Inc, and Amgen Oncology.
