2011 Tacoma Undy 5000

Undy 5000 Visits Northwest
On Saturday, August 20, more than 250 people came out to Cheney Stadium to raise awareness about colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the US. The weather was perfect for the 2011 Tacoma Undy 5000 and participants had some great underwear-themed costumes! Though the Undy 5000 makes light of a serious topic, the event concluded with a very intimate and inspiring ceremony. Ten colon cancer survivors got a chance to speak and be recognized for their valiant fight, while surrounded by hundreds of supporters.
A great addition to the event was band CYLA ROCK who generously donated their time to the Undy 5000. They performed throughout the morning, engaging the audience with their songs and even getting groups of people dancing!
This year’s event raised nearly $70,000 thanks to the generous support of national sponsors, local sponsors and event fundraisers. A portion of the proceeds went to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to help fund colon cancer services for those in the local community.
