Washington, DC Undy 5000

First Annual Washington, DC Undy 5000
On Sunday, October 3rd, the first annual Washington, DC Undy 5000 5K run was held at East Potomac Park in Hains Point. The event was the culmination of the week-long DC Goes Blue campaign, which was designed to help educate the public about colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States.
“Washington, DC has one of the highest incidence rates of colon cancer in the nation,” said Andrew Spiegel, CEO of the Colon Cancer Alliance. “Bringing our highly successful Undy 5000 to Washington, DC provides us with a great opportunity to bring greater awareness to colon cancer and the importance of being screened to help prevent this disease. This is a fun, healthy way to inform people about colon cancer, while helping save lives.”
A portion of the nearly $50,000 raised from the Washington, DC Undy 5000 will help fund colon cancer research and support screenings.
