2009 Undy 5000s

Tremendous Turnout at the Phoenix Undy 5000 5K Run
Over 1,000 people showed up in their underwear to participate in the 2nd Annual Phoenix Undy 5000 5K run on November 21st in downtown Phoenix. The Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) and its local chapter, Voices of Central Arizona hosted the event.
The Phoenix event raised over $100,000 to support and build the CCA's national and local patient support and innovative public awareness programs. A percentage of the local proceeds will provide treatment support for Arizonans diagnosed with colorectal cancer through the Fit at Fifty HealthCheck Program (FFHP). FFHP is provided through the Arizona Department of Health Services.
This event would not have been possible without the hard work of Michelle Hastings and the Central Arizona Voices Chapter. The CCA would also like to extend a special thanks to Salix Pharmaceuticals, Genentech Bio-Oncology, sanofi-aventis, MITA (Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance), the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, The Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, The Mayo Clinic, Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Western Regional Medical Center, Debora J. McClary, MD and Adrienne Forstner-Barthell, MD for making this event such a success.

Denver Undy 5000
The first annual Denver Undy 5000 5K run was held on Saturday, June 27 at City Park. The weather was perfect, and over 1,020 people participated in the event. The event has raised over $100,000 to date, with donations still arriving.
The CCA would like to extend a special thanks to national sponsors Salix Pharmaceuticals, sanofi-aventis, Genentech, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA). Local sponsorship was provided by Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology Associates, Arapahoe Gastroenterology, Good Belly and Exempla Lutheran Hospital. The Denver Undy 5000 5K run would not have been possible without the hard work of volunteers Serena Sampat and Brian Kothe.
The Colorado Colorectal Screening Program, the local partner who will receive a portion of the proceeds, debuted a short educational video about colorectal cancer screening. The video, "Your Colon and You: Getting to the Bottom of It," is available for viewing online.
St. Louis Undy 5000
Neither rain nor cold could dampen the enthusiasm at the inaugural St. Louis Undy 5000 – a brief run for colorectal cancer. Over 1,000 participants descended upon Forest Park on March 29th. The participants raised over $75,000 to support the programs and services of the Colon Cancer Alliance, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Gateway CCA Chapter of Missouri, Illinois and Kansas.
The event was a great success thanks to the hard work of the Gateway CCA Chapter officers: Tammy Lewis, Dorothy McGrath, Delores Davidson and Alissa White as well as the Race Director, Jeff Neuschwander of Fleet Feet Sports. The CCA wishes to thank our wonderful sponsors of the St. Louis Undy 5000: Ethicon Endo-Surgery, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, American College of Gastroenterology, Genentech, Siteman Cancer Center, SSM Cancer Care, Unitas Medical Services, Express Scripts and Preston Salon Spa.
