Volunteer Spotlights

Michelle
Michelle Morneau has worked tirelessly for the past eight years to spread awareness about colorectal cancer in her local Massachusetts community. Morneau's grandfather, Walter Bradlinski, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and passed away shortly thereafter nine years ago. Morneau quickly found the CCA in her search for support and understanding.
Christina
Christina joined the CCA Voices and Buddy program because she wanted to give back. She has always been an advocate for cancer awareness, but her desire and passion were heightened after her mother's death.
Bernie
At age 69, Bernie feels extremely blessed that he can still enjoy hiking in the mountains, editing a local magazine, and serving on the advisory board of the Wellness Community of San Jose. As a Voices Volunteer, he has had the opportunity to provide support for those affected with this disease and their caregivers as well. His most passionate mission, however, is to inform the public that most deaths from colon cancer can be prevented if people get screened.
Candace
Candace has been picking up the pieces of her life every day since her diagnosis. She continues to tell people that she is not a cancer survivor, but that she is surviving cancer. For her, every day is a new challenge.
Renae & Shawn
Renae Weeks is an advocate for colon cancer and has been a member of the CCA since December 2007. She joined the CCA because her husband, Shawn, was diagnosed with stage II colon cancer in May 2007. Being a caregiver made her realize how important it is to continue the fight against colon cancer. She found that with CCA she was able to channel her passion into positive change.
Arty
In December 2007, at just 35 years old, Arty was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer after suffering for 12 years with ulcerative colitis. After an eight month hiatus to have surgery and recover, Arty returned to work as a police detective, then began chemotherapy. In March 2010, Arty received the good news that he was in remission. In September of 2010, Arty brought 60 fellow police officers together to raise over $3,000 and participate in the Philadelphia Undy 5000 as team Stolen Colon.
