It was the 1960s, the days when female teachers strictly wore skirts and dresses to work. Having just entered the workforce as a 6th grade teacher in Maryland, Dottie Mattern bought herself a motorcycle because it’s what she could afford. Plus, she’d been waiting more than two years to get her own bike. It was a white Honda 90 step-through, “a girl’s bike,” as she calls it, because you could ride it in a skirt. Read more

Hero of the Month: Dominic DiFede

Dominic DiFede was shocked when his oldest brother, Robert, was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at the young age of 39. Over the next two years, Robert underwent multiple surgeries to remove parts of his colon and rounds of chemotherapy to combat the disease. Despite aggressive treatment, within a year the cancer had spread to his lungs. With Robert’s cancer now classified as terminal, Dominic began frantically searching for information about the disease that was killing his brother.  Read more

Colon Health Alert: New Colon Exam Tool Approved

Today, Given Imaging Ltd announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared PillCam® COLON as a new way to view the colon. The Colon Cancer Alliance welcomes PillCam COLON as an additional colon exam choice. When detected early, colon cancer is largely preventable. Through advancements like this, we’re one step closer to fulfilling our mission of knocking colon cancer out of the top three cancer killers. Read more
